Why No Bank Connections?
Why Plan in Decades will never connect to your live bank accounts.
A Deliberate Choice
Plan in Decades will never connect to your live bank accounts. This is a deliberate design decision, not a missing feature.
Why?
Wealth is Built Slowly
I believe that wealth is built slowly over time by doing boring things:
- Earn more
- Spend less
- Invest consistently
- Wait
“Live” balances just don’t matter unless you’re day trading. And if you’re day trading, you probably don’t need this tool.
Mental Health Matters
Checking your investments daily (or hourly) is a recipe for anxiety. Markets go up and down constantly. Day-to-day fluctuations tell you nothing about your long-term financial health.
Look at your investments at most once a month. Your mental health will thank you.
Security and Privacy
Bank connection services require sharing your credentials with third parties. Even with the best security practices, this creates risk. By not connecting to banks:
- Your credentials stay private
- There’s no third-party data sharing
- You control exactly what information you enter
How to Use Plan in Decades Instead
Update your financial snapshot monthly (or whenever works for you):
- Check your account balances once
- Enter the totals into Plan in Decades
- Close your banking apps
- Focus on the long-term trends, not daily noise
This approach gives you everything you need for meaningful financial calculations without the anxiety of live data.
